Let Babylon Burn is the independent music project of Robert Lancaster, a songwriter and creator from Norway. Blending acoustic roots reggae with soul, blues, and cinematic arrangements, the project centres on emotionally direct songs about being human: the things we carry, the choices we make, and the possibility of beginning again.
Lancaster's writing draws on personal experience and 20 years spent working in an ambulance — close to people in the rawest moments of their lives. That background informs the songs without always being explained in them. Some begin with a particular memory; others grow from an observation, a conversation, or something left unsaid. The details remain personal, while the feelings leave room for listeners to recognise their own lives.
“So Hollow” brought Let Babylon Burn to a wider international audience, helping build a following that has continued to grow across YouTube and streaming platforms. Releases including Battleground of Broken Hearts, Gospel of the Almost Broken, Serendipity, and Ordinary Miracles explore different shades of the project’s sound, from stripped-back intimacy to fuller, atmospheric arrangements.
The creative process combines Lancaster’s songwriting, guitar work, and production direction with AI-assisted performances. Across those choices, the emphasis remains on the writing, the phrasing, and the feeling a song leaves behind.
Working independently allows Lancaster to follow his own musical instincts and maintain a direct relationship with listeners. Their responses have become a meaningful part of the project, with people across countries and generations sharing the memories and experiences the songs bring to mind.
Lancaster keeps much of his private life outside the public frame. Through Let Babylon Burn, he shares what he chooses to put into song—leaving space for the listener to find their own meaning.
